Neurophysiology Core Lab

Brain research – Neuroplasticity in health and disease (chronic pain, aging, Alzheimer’s’ Disease, and other neurological and psychiatric diseases)

A multidisciplinary approach of state-of-the-art multidisciplinary approach of state-of-the-art in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, multi-photon imaging in vivo and ex vivo, microendoscopy for in vivo calcium imaging, optogenetics, chemogenetics, viral vector strategies, transgenics, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, (opto-)pharmacology, and innovative behavioral assays is used in different preclinical models of neurological and psychiatric disorders to study neuroplasticity, underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets. Studies in humans and human brain tissue include mechanisms, biomarkers and interventions for aging-related health issues through the Garrison Institute on Aging, its Brain Bank, community outreach and mental health services, and Project FRONTIER, a longitudinal epidemiological study on aging and cognitive decline in a multi-ethnic sample of adults in rural communities.
