MISSION STATEMENT
Provide the highest standard of urological care in a compassionate and ethical manner.
Pursue academic, clinical, and technical excellence.
Foster an environment of intellectual curiosity and create life-long learners.
Promote leadership and mentorship at all levels.
The Texas Tech Urology residency program aims to produce diverse, skilled, and compassionate Urologists by providing outstanding clinical and surgical training. Our goal is to prepare our residents to be independent and self-assured. We train residents so they can choose to go into fellowship training, private practice in the region, or academic medicine.
Curriculum Overview
The Urology Residency Program at Texas Tech is a five year program that includes a PGY I year with a 6 month experience in the Department of Surgery.
At graduation, residents will have the necessary background to practice urology in the environment of their choice to include general or sub-specialty training, and/or an academic or research oriented career.
This year is completed in coordination with the department of general surgery at TTUHSC. It is designed to give the resident basic skills and training in general surgery. The resident will also have several months training with the urology service.
PGY2 – PGY5 years are spent specifically learning urology. The residents work in both the pediatric and adult operating rooms and they participate in attending clinics. They learn office procedures and how to do appropriate hospital consultations. The residents are on call every 4th weekend and approximately every 4th day. They attend educational conferences on Monday and Friday. They attend national conferences to present papers and the AUA during their 4th year.
The focus of this program is primarily clinical, with a robust and broad exposure to and participation in all aspects of clinical urology. Residents participate directly in all phases of the clinical care of urological patients to include performing or assisting in all urological surgical procedures performed at University Medical Center Hospital and supporting institutions.
